JAKARTA, itb.ac.id – The Laptop Merah Putih project, a collaboration between Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), PT Tera Data Indonusa, Tbk. (Axioo), and technology partner Intel, marks significant progress toward achieving national technological independence.
As part of efforts to translate campus research and innovation into practical applications, a ceremonial Handover of Laptop Merah Putih Components, supporting the Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi principles in the fields of education, research, and community service, took place between Axioo and ITB on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, in Jakarta. The event was attended by ITB Rector, Prof. Dr. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T.; Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Ir. Lavi Rizki Zuhal, Ph.D.; and Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Irwan Meilano, S.T., M.Sc.
During the handover of the laptop’s reference design components, ITB Rector, Prof. Tatacipta Dirgantara, expressed his appreciation for this milestone. He highlighted the project as a prime example of universities actively contributing to technology development and its integration into industry.
“I hope other teams can draw on this experience and knowledge to further advance Indonesia’s technological independence,” Prof. Tatacipta stated on May 6, 2025, in Jakarta.
The Laptop Merah Putih was developed by a consortium of five state-owned universities (PTN-BH), namely Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), and Telkom University (Tel-U). This consortium collaborated with domestic industries to design and produce laptops tailored to Indonesia’s educational needs.
While incorporating Indonesian-made components, the Laptop Merah Putih adopts cutting-edge technology. Ir. Adi Indrayanto, M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of ITB’s Microelectronics Center, noted that the use of locally produced components increases the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), strengthening ITB’s contribution to the national IT device industry.
The Laptop Merah Putih aims to pave the way for sustainable national technological independence.
