BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Association of Bioenergy and Chemurgy Engineering Students “RINUVA” at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) successfully held the Chemurgy Innovation Summit (CIS) 2025, a national symposium and competition that brings together innovative ideas in the fields of bioenergy and chemurgy. The event was executed with notable success.

CIS 2025 was held to enhance public understanding of the potential of chemurgy. This field plays a significant role in reducing dependence on fossil fuels through the utilization of biomass, agricultural waste, and local biodiversity. The lack of public education has been a barrier to developing innovative solutions. Therefore, this event aimed to raise awareness through a scientific and collaborative cross-sectoral approach.

With the theme “Unlocking Indonesia's Potential: Innovating with Chemurgy for a Sustainable Future,” the event emphasizes that Indonesia possesses extraordinary biological wealth, including biomass, agricultural waste, and tropical biodiversity, yet these resources remain underutilized. The event comprises various activities, including:

• A national talk show featuring speakers from academia, industry, and the government;

• A product innovation competition for students;

• A scientific poster and debate competition; and

• A Business Case Competition (BCC) focused on the challenges of the bioenergy industry.

The event collaborated with various parties, including academic institutions, PT Pertamina (Persero), Power Chemical Services, and the government.

Many students attended the event to learn about biotechnology and view the product innovation booths showcased by the finalists.

With the enthusiasm of participants and cross-sectoral support, CIS 2025 marks the first step in introducing biotechnology as a future solution. This initiative is expected to continue fostering sustainable innovations based on Indonesia's biological wealth.
