BANDUNG, itb.ac.id- Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in collaboration withUniversity of Groningen, Netherlands, held a guest lecture entitled“Macromolecular Chemistry & International Collaboration”. This event presentsProf. Katja Loos, senior researcher from the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials, University of Groningen, as the keynote speaker.

Activities taking place atAuditorium, 8th floor of CRiMSE/PAU Building, ITBthis is one of thepre-event series for The 8th Gruber–Soedigdo Lecture (GSL) 2025, an annual scientific forum focused on the development of sustainable biomaterials and biotechnology.

In his presentation, Prof. Loos explained various current research themes in the field of macromolecular chemistry and sustainable materials, includes energy materials, quantum materials, sustainable polymers, supramolecular assemblies, until advanced instrumentation for semiconductor industriesThrough a multidisciplinary approach, these studies are aimed at supporting innovation in the energy, environmental, and green technology sectors.

Furthermore, Prof. Loos highlighted the research he is currently developing regarding enzymatic polymerization or an environmentally friendly enzyme-based polymerization process. This technology enables more efficient and sustainable polymer synthesis than conventional metal-catalyst-based methods.Enzymes are efficient, environmentally friendly catalysts that can work under mild conditions and support a wide range of reactions," said Prof. Loos in his presentation, Wednesday (29/10/2025).

In addition to presenting his research, Prof. Loos also shared his views on opportunities for research collaboration and further study at the University of Groningen. He believes that Indonesian students, particularly those from ITB, have an adaptable spirit and good academic performance.

“Especially if you're young, you're easier to adapt. Indonesian students, especially from ITB, are very nice and have successful careers and researches as well,” said Prof. Loos, Wednesday (29/10/2025).
