BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held its Student Orientation (Penerimaan Mahasiswa Baru/PMB) on Thursday (August 14, 2025) at Sasana Budaya Ganesha (Sabuga), Ganesha Campus. The welcoming event, attended by around 5,000 freshmen along with the ITB Rector, academic leaders, and professors, was filled with meaningful sessions. Among the highlights, however, one performance successfully captured the audience’s attention: a musical performance by a freshmen band from the Class of 2025.

The band is composed of six students from various faculties: Sheika Zhafira (SAPPK) on drums, Arizki Mumtaz (FTTM) and Kafka Alfattan (SBM) on guitars, Afia Geraldine Siagian (FSRD) on keyboard, Muhammad Alfi Mubarok Zaidan (FITB) on bass, and Kirana Deswin Salsabila (STEI-R) as the vocalist. Interestingly, the band was not formed overnight. All six members have been close friends since high school and continued their academic journey together at ITB after graduating from SMA Negeri 3 Bandung. Initially, the band consisted of five members before adding one more a day before the event to strengthen their performance.

Preparation for the performance was relatively short. Only three days before the orientation, one of the members. Alfi was contacted by a senior who informed them that they would be asked to perform at PMB. The invitation was later confirmed by ITB SBM lecturer Mr. Muhammad Yorga Permana, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D.. Despite the limited rehearsal time, the band managed to deliver an energetic and captivating performance, lifting the spirits of thousands of freshmen gathered at Sabuga. In a brief interview after their performance, the band members expressed their gratitude and pride for being given such an opportunity.

“We are truly delighted and honored to be trusted to perform at an event of this scale. It was a privilege to be part of ITB’s PMB,” they said.

They also shared their hopes to further develop their musical skills during their time at ITB, including by joining various student activity units (UKM) related to music. This freshmen band’s performance was more than just entertainment—it stood as a symbol of collaboration and creativity that ITB students bring with them from the very first day of their academic journey at the university.
