KUNINGAN, itb.ac.id - Seventeen students from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) participating in the 2025 Community Service Program (KKN) carried out their project in Legokherang Village, Kuningan Regency, from August 5 to 29, 2025. Led by Muhamad Abdulah Al Azam (Interior Design 2023), Group 11 adopted the theme of institutional development, aiming to create a village that is active, adaptive, transparent, and collaborative.

The program focused on strengthening local institutions. With Karang Taruna, the village youth organization, the students initiated a focus group discussion (FGD) to identify key challenges. The discussion revealed that the limited number of members and inadequate facilities made it difficult to sustain existing programs. To address this, the students helped prioritize activities by eliminating unsustainable programs and designing strategies to ensure more realistic and continuous initiatives.

Another major effort involved the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) and the Women Farmers Group (KWT). The students supported the revitalization of a community herbal garden by providing new seedlings, assisting in compost production, and encouraging the planting of crops such as chili, eggplant, tomatoes, corn, long beans, and basil. The activity was carried out on the land in front of the village health clinic during the fallow period of the rice fields.

In addition, the team assisted the local health post by digitizing records. Data that had previously been stored manually on paper was transferred into Excel, making it easier to monitor child growth and improve health services for the community.

Similar attention was given to Linmas (Community Protection), which had been relatively inactive due to limited human resources. To strengthen its role, the students organized a disaster mitigation workshop in collaboration with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Kuningan Regency. The session produced a hazard map of landslide-prone areas and established designated assembly points, which were later socialized through posters.

The program also extended to the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes). Since most villagers are farmers, BUMDes has been working to diversify its business into aquaculture. The students assisted by providing insights on marketing strategies and exploring potential opportunities for future development, with the goal of strengthening BUMDes as a driver of the local economy.

Beyond the main program, the students actively engaged in various community activities. They helped prepare for the Independence Day celebration on August 17, taught science experiments and solar system lessons to elementary school students, held regular English classes, supported Quran lessons at the local madrasa, and organized group exercise sessions with the women of the village.

Throughout the program, the students noted valuable lessons in adapting, communicating, and respecting local traditions. “We are grateful because through this KKN, we have learned so much and become closer to the community,” said Azam.

Looking ahead, the students hope that their contributions will serve as a foundation for sustainable development in the village. “We want the institutional and human resource strengthening we have initiated to help the villagers become more united, better organized, and capable of managing infrastructure and local potential independently. We hope the benefits we brought, even if not physical, will continue to be useful in the future,” Azam concluded.
