BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) Class of 1970 alumni held a blood donation event at the East Campus Center of ITB’s Ganesha Campus on Wednesday, April 17, 2025. The initiative was open to all members of the ITB academic community as well as the general public and served as a meaningful way for the alumni to commemorate their educational journey at ITB.
The event was officially opened by Mrs. Melok Besari, a Physics alumna from the Class of 1970, who expressed that the drive represented a sincere commitment to empathy and social responsibility among the alumni. She emphasized that blood donation is not only a means of providing physical assistance but also a way to cultivate compassion and a sense of communal care.
“This blood donation event marks 55 years since we entered ITB,” Mrs. Besari stated during her opening remarks. “Although we are no longer young, we remain eager to contribute through meaningful humanitarian activities like this one.”

From the early morning hours, the East Campus Center was filled with students, faculty members, alumni, and members of the public who participated enthusiastically in the blood drive. The strong response exceeded expectations, with 150 blood bags prepared by the organizers. By midday, several attendees had yet to donate due to the limited supply of donation kits available.
Despite this, the event was considered a great success. Committee members from the Class of 1970 expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support and took the opportunity to pose for a group photo to commemorate the occasion.

Beyond its immediate medical impact, the blood donation drive served as a powerful reminder of the values ITB seeks to instill in its community. The organizers expressed their hope that this event would not only continue as an annual tradition but also inspire further social initiatives that make a tangible difference in people’s lives. At its core, the donation of a single drop of blood can become a lifeline for someone in need, highlighting the enduring importance of compassion and collective responsibility in building a better society.
