BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) received a visit from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, at the Rapim A Room, ITB Rectorate Building, Jalan Tamansari, Bandung.

The event was attended by several ITB leaders, including Dr. Ir. Endra Gunawan, S.T., MSc., ITB Director of Partnership, and Prof. Dr. Delik Hudalah, S.T., M.T., MSc. Director of Educational Development. Also in attendance were representatives from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (SEEI), Faculty of Industrial Technology (FIT), Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FMAE), and the School of Business and Management (SBM).

Meanwhile, the KU Leuven delegation was represented by Prof. Tegoeh Tjahjowidodo from the Faculty of Engineering Technology, with Ms. Hilde Lauwereys, International Affairs Officer of the faculty.

The visit was part of an effort to strengthen international partnerships in education, particularly through applied engineering approaches. One of the main agenda was the development of double degree program between ITB and KU Leuven.

During the meeting, both institutions discussed various important aspects of the collaboration. Starting from course mapping, academic credit recognition, and student admission mechanisms. This discussion also covered opportunities for student exchange, curriculum development, as well as potential research collaboration across a range of scientific and technological fields.

Prof. Tegoeh Tjahjowidodo emphasized the importance of flexibility in the cooperation model. “There was one interesting point, the double degree program does not always have to be a formal double degree, it could also take the form of credit recognition or curriculum alignment. So, what we should encourage is how these students can get international experience without having to spend an exorbitant amount of money,” he said.

He added that graduates of this program will have competencies that are recognized in Europe, therefore they are ready to compete in the international job market. “KU Leuven Faculty of Engineering Technology is ready to support this with an industry-based curriculum and access to a network of companies in Belgium.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Delik Hudalah expressed that the collaboration reflects ITB’s commitment to delivering globally-oriented education. “We are committed to providing cross-border learning experiences for our students. This collaboration not only strengthens academic capacity, but also paves the way for transforming education based on practical application and global industry needs,” he stated.

Both institutions agreed to promptly align their courses to equalize competency standards between institutions. The meeting also addressed steps for curriculum revisions, strengthening inter-faculty relationships, and the potential drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as the foundation for implementing cooperation. This whole process will be carried out through intensive coordination supported by both institutions.
