JATINANGOR, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) has been entrusted with hosting the prestigious ABU Indonesia Robot Contest (KRAI) 2025 at the national level. The competition is being held on Monday and Tuesday (July 7–8, 2025) at the Futsal Sports Hall, ITB Jatinangor Campus.

This event is part of the Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI), organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemdiktisaintek RI).

For 2025, the KRI features a single division: KRAI. This serves as the qualifying round for the ABU ROBOCON 2025 Asia-Pacific competition, which will take place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia this August. As the host, ITB has specially designed a competition arena tailored to this year’s theme: Robot Basketball.

“The venue we've prepared is quite spacious—about the size of half a basketball court. It accommodates passing, dribbling, shooting, as well as offensive and defensive strategies. This presents a new and exciting challenge, including the possibility of robot-to-robot contact,” said the 2025 KRAI Committee Chair, Ir. Vani Virdyawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.

A total of 40 teams from various universities under the Ministry’s jurisdiction initially registered for the preliminary selection. Following an online visitation process on June 14, 2025, 24 teams qualified to compete at the national level. ITB’s own team successfully made it through and will compete as one of the finalists.

KRAI 2025 carries a significant mission: to promote innovation, creativity, and technological mastery among Indonesian university students while strengthening the national research and engineering ecosystem in the field of robotics.

“We hope this event becomes a platform for developing outstanding talent in robotics. Beyond competition, it is intended to foster collaboration, cultivate a productive academic culture, and expand public interest in robotics technology,” Vani added.

ITB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., expressed his appreciation to everyone involved in organizing the event.

“It is an honor for ITB to host this important agenda. KRAI is more than just a competition—it is a platform for innovation, learning, and healthy sportsmanship. It is a quest to discover outstanding talents in robotics and systems engineering,” he stated during the KRAI 2025 opening ceremony on Monday (7/7/2025) at the ITB Jatinangor Sports Hall.

“This also aligns with the spirit of collaboration that we uphold. It's a long process, not just technical, but also about working in teams and building cooperation. It reflects the hard work and dedication of our talented students in the field of technology, and I’m truly proud of them. I hope this event provides valuable experience and learning for all participants,” he added.

Meanwhile, ITB’s Director of Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Muhamad Insanu, S.Si., M.Si., welcomed ITB’s role as host with enthusiasm.

“This is an annual event aimed at producing technology innovators, especially in the field of robotics,” Prof. Insanu said.

As host, ITB also emphasized the importance of providing the best possible experience and comfort for all participants, judges, committee members, and spectators. With a spirit of innovation and sportsmanship, ITB is committed to making KRAI 2025 a successful showcase of technological excellence and national pride.
