KUNINGAN, itb.ac.id - A total of 18 students from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), organized under KKN ITB 2025 Group 12, carried out a community service program in Legokherang Village, Kuningan Regency, from August 5 to 29, 2025. Adopting the theme Desa Wisata (Tourism Village), the group focused on developing the Situ Ciputat area, envisioned as both a fishing spot and a new recreational space for the local community.
According to Nicholas Ethan Wirantono (Civil Engineering 2023), Head of the Program Division of Group 12, Situ Ciputat was originally a former rice field later converted into a pond with simple concrete embankments. However, the surrounding soil conditions were unstable, muddy, and prone to subsidence, posing challenges for further development.
One idea proposed by local residents was the construction of a gazebo, yet discussions on its design and placement initially sparked debate. After conducting on-site surveys, internal discussions, and consultations with their academic supervisor, the students finalized both the gazebo design and a broader landscape plan for the area.

The construction process actively involved local residents to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility in maintaining the facilities. Most of the building materials were sourced from the village itself, such as bamboo and palm fibers, while other necessities like cement and complementary equipment were provided with the support of the village-owned enterprise (BUMDes).
As a result, Situ Ciputat now features a 3x4-meter gazebo with a total height of 4 meters, four sets of umbrella tables with chairs, nine solar-powered garden lamps with bamboo poles, and paving block pathways connecting the facilities. The group also planted 10 ketapang trees around the lake to provide natural shade in the future, as well as 40 pucuk merah trees to border the parking and garden areas.
To strengthen the site’s tourism identity, three informational signboards were installed, presenting historical background and local stories about Legokherang Village, Situ Cikabuyutan, and Situ Ciputat. All completed facilities were later inaugurated and officially handed over to BUMDes for sustainable management.

Beyond the main tourism program, the group also initiated several supporting activities. These included Ngariung Sauyunan, a community gathering and program introduction event; four teaching sessions at SDN 1 Legokherang, covering subjects such as mathematics, Indonesian language, and career aspirations; donations of prayer equipment and Qur’ans to local mosques; soap distribution to residents; and a tourism awareness seminar held in conjunction with the park’s inauguration.
The initiatives received warm support from the community, who contributed labor, meals, and encouragement throughout the process. Although the team faced challenges, particularly in sourcing certain construction materials, they viewed the experience as a valuable lesson in the importance of thorough preparation and adaptability.
“This park represents both our hard work and the aspirations of Legokherang residents. We hope it brings lasting benefits and serves as a new attraction for the village,” Nicholas shared. He added that beyond the tangible outcomes, the bonds formed between students and the community, as well as the solidarity within the group, remain as treasured memories from their KKN journey.
