JAKARTA, itb.ac.id – The School of Pharmacy, Institut Teknologi Bandung (SP ITB), participated once again in the Indonesia Cosmetic Ingredients (ICI) 2025 event held at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, from May 14 to 16, 2025. This marks the third consecutive year SP ITB has taken part in the exhibition, demonstrating its commitment to the development of research-based cosmetic raw materials.

ICI 2025, organized by the Indonesian Cosmetics Companies Association, carries the theme "Beauty, Innovation, and Technology for the Future Trends." The exhibition features 122 companies from both domestic and international markets, 14 government institutions and universities, as well as 24 MSME products. The majority of participants are cosmetic raw material companies, including universities actively conducting research in the field, one of which is SP ITB.

At the exhibition, SP ITB showcased various innovative research products, including the utilization of natural materials that are upcycled into high-value products. SP ITB also offered laboratory product testing services as a form of support to the industry in ensuring product safety and quality. Moreover, the exhibition served as a platform to introduce postgraduate programs in pharmacy, opening wider opportunities for academic and industry collaborations.

The Head of National Agency of Drug and Food Control (Bahasa: Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan, BPOM), Taruna Ikrar, had the opportunity to visit the SP ITB booth and expressed appreciation for the egg shell membrane research displayed. He noted that the innovation is capable of producing new functions beneficial for skin health, such as significantly improving elasticity and hydration. “The research is excellent, and the modification results are very promising,” he said.

As a commitment to introducing research-based cosmetic innovations, SP ITB presented a number of flagship products. These innovations not only stand out in terms of effectiveness but are also environmentally friendly, aligning with global cosmetic industry trends. Below is a series of flagship products showcased by SP ITB at the ICI 2025 event.

Stralend

This flagship product was developed using nano-processed avocado seed extract and oil as the main raw materials, formulated together with other halal ingredients such as peach extract, licorice root extract, and Galactomyces extract. The product line consists of Face Serum, Cleansing Foam, and Day and Night Serum, all of which help maintain the health and brightness of facial skin. Stralend also offers several benefits and advantages, including moisturizing the skin, protecting it from UV-A and UV-B radiation, being non-comedogenic, and free from detergents (SLS/SLES).

Nano-Avocado

Stralend utilizes an innovation derived from nano-processed avocado seed extract and oil, which ensures that the active ingredients penetrate deeply into the desired skin layers, making it more effective in brightening and nourishing the skin. The safety and benefits of this formulation have been scientifically proven in the laboratory. Besides brightening, Stralend also cares for skin health by maintaining moisture and elasticity of the facial skin.

Eggshellent

SP ITB’s flagship product, an anti-aging serum made from eggshell membrane, is formulated with collagen, hyaluronic acid, and bioactive proteins. This combination functions to improve skin elasticity, maintain moisture, and enhance cell regeneration. Thanks to its rich nutritional content, Eggshellent can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making the skin softer, more supple, and naturally look younger.

Eggshell Membrane
Various types of eggshell membrane showcased by SP ITB include Eggshell Membrane Powder, Liquid Hydrolyzed Eggshell Membrane, and Freeze-Dried Hydrolyzed Eggshell Membrane. The Eggshell Membrane Powder is a bioactive-rich powder effective in reducing joint pain, improving flexibility, and enhancing skin hydration and elasticity. Meanwhile, the Liquid Hydrolyzed Eggshell Membrane is a liquid form produced by enzymatic hydrolysis using local papain enzyme, clinically proven to increase skin hydration, improve elasticity, and inhibit collagenase. Its dry version, the Freeze-Dried Hydrolyzed Eggshell Membrane, is produced through a freezing method to optimally maintain the stability and integrity of bioactive compounds. These three variants demonstrate how SP ITB maximizes the potential of eggshell membrane to create high-value, environmentally friendly products.

NüU Reboot

A skincare line consisting of serum and cleansing oil-to-foam products that utilize Tamanu Polyphenol as the main ingredient. These products are known to reduce acne, fade acne scars, brighten the skin, and provide a fresher facial appearance. Tamanu Polyphenol is extracted from defatted virgin tamanu oil (VTO) with a high polyphenol concentration.

Tamanu Polyphenol

Tamanu Polyphenol is a natural compound extracted from defatted virgin tamanu oil (VTO), rich in pyranocoumarins, coumarins, flavonoids, phenolics, and steroids/terpenoids. Compared to original tamanu oil, this polyphenol has a higher concentration and a non-greasy property, making it easier to formulate. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties and ability to repair skin cells, Tamanu Polyphenol is suitable for use in various care products such as haircare, anti-aging serums, soaps, spa products, and wellness items, providing multifunctional benefits for skin health and beauty.

Not only participating in the exhibition, SP ITB also contributed as a speaker at the ICI 2025 seminar. Head of the ITB Innovative Cosmetics Laboratory, Dr. apt. Defri Rizaldy, S.Si., M.Si., presented a talk titled "Bench to Consumer: Sustainable Cosmetic Development by School of Pharmacy ITB". In his presentation, Dr. Defri emphasized the importance of sustainable cosmetic research focusing on environmentally friendly materials and modern technology.

SP ITB continues to uphold its history of innovation by constantly following global technological developments and adapting them to the needs of the Indonesian cosmetics industry. These efforts are carried out through participation in international exhibitions, collaboration with the industry, and public education through webinars and health discussions. SP ITB consistently promotes the downstreaming of its research products to be directly delivered to the public, one of which is through exhibitions like ICI 2025.

Dr. Defri stated that the ICI 2025 exhibition serves as a trigger for ITB to keep developing research-based local cosmetic raw materials. "Hopefully, in the future, cosmetic raw materials can use natural ingredients sourced from Indonesia, no longer relying on imports," he said. He also emphasized the importance of synergy between research centers, industry, and government to achieve independence in domestic cosmetic raw materials.
