BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held its Semester Kick-Off Gathering to mark the beginning of Semester I, Academic Year 2025/2026, on Wednesday (August 27, 2025) at the West Hall of ITB’s Ganesha Campus.
During the event, ITB’s Rector and Vice Rectors presented the university’s strategic direction, achievements, and future plans before an audience of around 1,000 faculty members and staff. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr.rer.nat. apt. Sophi Damayanti, S.Si., M.Si., ITB’s Director of Alumni and Career Development.
ITB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., outlined the institution’s ambition to break into the world’s top 150 universities. Strategies include increasing the number of postgraduate students, strengthening the research and innovation ecosystem, advancing internationalization, and mobilizing alumni and industry networks.
“ITB is committed to becoming a fourth-generation university that is excellent and impactful. To achieve this, we must dare to break out of the middle-ranking trap and push for research and innovation that truly create added value for the nation and the world,” the Rector emphasized.
Echoing this vision, Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Irwan Meilano, S.T., M.Sc., stressed the importance of educational integration from undergraduate to doctoral levels. He added that ITB is committed to strengthening the character of graduates to be adaptive and globally minded. “We want ITB students to excel not only academically but also to be pioneers, socially conscious, and open to international collaboration,” he said.
Resource support was also highlighted as a crucial factor. Vice Rector for Resources, Prof. Dr. Dea Indriani Astuti, S.Si., explained that improvements in faculty and staff welfare go hand in hand with the modernization of campus facilities.
Meanwhile, in terms of governance and campus development, Vice Rector for Finance, Planning, and Development, Prof. Ir. Agus Jatnika Effendi, Ph.D., elaborated on ITB’s multi-campus strategy. Each campus is being directed toward distinctive functions: “Ganesha will serve as the hub of all ITB campuses; Jatinangor is being developed as a high-tech and eco-campus; Cirebon is envisioned as a sustainable campus; and Jakarta as a downtown campus, bringing ITB closer to government and industry centers,” he explained.
Research and innovation remain a core focus. Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Ir. Lavi Rizki Zuhal, Ph.D., stated that ITB is targeting growth in international publications, patents, and a technology-based entrepreneurship ecosystem. “We aim to position ITB as a multidisciplinary research center capable of producing deep-tech start-ups and innovations relevant to industry and society,” he said firmly.

“Alumni are one of ITB’s greatest strengths. Through initiatives such as the Alumni Creative Space and the establishment of the ITB Museum, we want to create shared spaces that strengthen networks and elevate ITB’s global profile,” he noted.
The Semester Kick-Off Gathering reaffirmed ITB’s trajectory toward 2030, with its vision of becoming a world-class university that creates meaningful impact for society. The Rector concluded with a message:
