Weaving Faith into Logical Reasoning: ITB Strengthens Faith and Knowledge Through Islamic Religion General Lecture

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Joint Preparation Directorate of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) organized an Islamic Religion General Lecture on Saturday (17/5/2025) at West Hall, ITB Ganesha Campus. The lecture, themed “Weaving Faith and Knowledge: Delving into the Harmony of Religion and Science.”
This agenda emphasized ITB’s commitment not only to producing brilliant graduates but also to shaping individuals who are impactful, knowledgeable, and meaningful.
The event featured two speakers: Drs. Agus Syihabudin, M.A., and Usep Mohamad Ishaq, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., both lecturers from the Humanities Expertise Group. Through a communicative and reflective approach, they encouraged students to recognize that science and religion are not opposing forces but complementary—enriching knowledge, providing deeper meaning, and fostering moral responsibility in the pursuit of learning.
The discussion on the relationship between intelligence, religion, technology, and spirituality unfolded dynamically. Participants’ enthusiasm was evident as many took the initiative to ask questions.
They exploring topics such as intellectual proofs of God’s existence, the potential integration of technology and religion (including the utilization of AI), and how science can be a medium to deepen spirituality. This engagement reflects ITB’s young generation—not only critically sharp but also aspiring to live in harmony with noble values.
Prof. Dr. Fatimah Arofiati Noor, S.Si., M.Si., Director of ITB’s Joint Preparation, highlighted that this lecture aligns with ITB’s mission to develop graduates who excel academically while remaining morally and spiritually strong. “Science and faith go hand in hand: Science steadies faith with reason, while faith guides science toward welfare and noble ethics,” she said
The event was coordinated by Dr. Elsa Silvia Nur Aulia, Coordinator of Religion Courses and Committee Chair, with full support from Dr. Qoriaah, Coordinator of General Courses (MKU). Together, they created a space for students to connect knowledge, values, and life experiences holistically.
“Our students need opportunities to reflect and discuss the values guiding their lives. Today, they didn’t just learn—they grew,” said Dr. Elsa.
This lecture embodies ITB’s spirit of impact—where higher education is not just about innovation but also about life’s direction and humanitarian responsibility. True change-makers are those who unite sharp intellect with a clear conscience.
