BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) inaugurated the Labtek XV Building, named the Molecular Engineering and Functional Materials Building, on Thursday (7/8/2025), at the ITB Ganesha Campus. The inauguration marks the completion of the new facility, a collaborative effort between ITB, PT Pertamina (Persero), and PT Paragon Technology and Innovation.
The Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., stated that the new building, which has been under construction since November 2023 on the site of the former Gedung Kimia Lama (Old Chemistry Building), serves as a modern and integrated facility. It will play a crucial role in education and research at the molecular level and its applications in various fields such as energy, health, food, and the environment. The facility will also contribute to creating materials designed to solve global issues in sectors such as electronics, sensors, energy storage, and other technologies vital to a sustainable future.
"With this facility, ITB reinforces its commitment to making an impact in research, education, and community service. With the presence of this integrated facility, we hope to see the emergence of more applicable scientific works, innovative learning, and real-world solutions that benefit the nation," said Prof. Tata.
He also expressed his gratitude to all parties involved, including former rectors who contributed to the development of various facilities at ITB, one of which is the Labtek XV Building.
The facilities in the Molecular Engineering and Functional Materials Building include teaching and research laboratories, public spaces, lecture and seminar rooms, a workshop area, an innovation laboratory, a workshop, a cafe, and faculty rooms.
Group CEO of ParagonCorp, Harman Subakat, stated, “We hope that the inauguration of the Labtek XV Building at ITB will serve as a gateway for the birth of great innovations—a place where change begins. We believe that every experiment, no matter how small, is a first step toward impactful solutions. In the hands of young innovators, technology is not merely a tool, but a bridge to a better civilization.”
He further expressed, “For ParagonCorp, this represents our commitment to walk alongside others in creating a future that is better, more impactful, and more meaningful. We hope this step marks the beginning of many positive contributions for Indonesia.”
President Director of Pertamina, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, stated that the development of this facility is part of an ongoing effort to support and advance the education sector in Indonesia. He expressed his appreciation to all parties who share a strong commitment to fostering the progress of the nation’s youth through education.
“This building is just the beginning—not the end. It marks the start of a long journey and, certainly, the beginning of even closer collaborations that we will undertake. This journey begins here and now, opening opportunities for the entire academic community on this campus and beyond—for all the youth of the nation and for every patriot of Indonesia,” he said.
