BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — The School of Business and Management at Institut Teknologi Bandung (SBM ITB) is hosting the 9th International Conference on Management in Emerging Markets (ICMEM) from August 20–21, 2025, at the 6th floor of the Freeport Building. This annual conference returns with the theme: “Sustainable Growth and Innovation in Emerging Markets: Strategic Decisions, Collaboration, ESG Goals, and Circular Economies.”

Prof. Aurik Gustomo, Ph.D., Dean of SBM ITB, emphasized that the conference aligns with the school’s mission to educate innovative leaders with an entrepreneurial leadership mindset.
“This conference is not just an academic forum; it is also a call to action to deliver real solutions for emerging markets in the future. For over 11 years, SBM ITB has consistently produced more than 100 international journal publications annually, supported by labs in financial innovation, business analytics, neurobusiness, educational games, and technology management. ICMEM reflects our ongoing commitment to education, research, and community engagement,” he stated.

Support also came from the ITB rectorate. Prof. Zulfiadi Zulhan noted that ICMEM serves as an important platform to address global challenges.
“Emerging markets are currently facing serious issues ranging from climate change and digital disruption to social inequality. Through this conference, ITB is committed to fostering dialogue, cross-border collaboration, and the development of inclusive and sustainable solutions. We hope that the fresh ideas born from this forum will contribute meaningfully to society and civilization,” he said.

According to Dr. Novika Candra Astuti, Chair of ICMEM 2025, this year’s conference offers a new and distinct approach from previous editions.
“This year, ICMEM is no longer just a platform for SBM ITB students to fulfill academic requirements. We aim to elevate SBM ITB’s brand as a leader in entrepreneurship, set an example for other institutions, and turn this conference into a space for knowledge exchange between researchers from Indonesia and abroad,” she explained.
The chosen theme reflects the global urgency surrounding sustainability amid growing business and environmental challenges—ranging from climate change, poverty, hunger, and conflict to refugee crises, pandemics, and inequality. Dr. Novika stressed that the urgency is intergenerational.
“We cannot only think about ourselves today but must also consider our children and grandchildren—how they can live comfortably without traffic jams or trash everywhere. From the world of education, this conference can be the starting point to raise community awareness about the importance of sustainability,” she added.

Among the keynote speakers at ICMEM 2025 are Prof. Shaker A. Zahra (University of Minnesota), Dr. Shane Mathews (Queensland University of Technology), Dr. Mohamad Rohieszan Bin Ramdan (Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia), and Prof. Yos Sunitiyoso, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D. (SBM ITB), with Helmy Yahya serving as the event host.
In addition to parallel paper sessions, this year’s ICMEM features an expanded program that includes talk show discussions, industry forums, marketing talks, a doctoral colloquium, and a series of workshops.
With a comprehensive program design, ICMEM 2025 further solidifies its role as a bridge between academia, industry, policymakers, and the public. Its impact is made even more meaningful by the presentation of over 100 research papers from universities in Indonesia and countries such as Japan, Australia, Vietnam, the United States, Germany, and Malaysia.
ICMEM 2025 is not merely an academic platform—it is a call to action. By involving students, researchers, business practitioners, and policymakers, the conference aims to generate practical, sustainable, and innovative solutions for emerging markets while reinforcing Indonesia’s global contribution to addressing worldwide challenges.
“Through ICMEM, we aim to foster cross-border collaboration that produces real ideas, research, and strategies—for a future that is inclusive, responsible, and sustainable,” said Dr. Novika.
