BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Faculty of Art and Design, Institut Teknologi Bandung (FSRD ITB) fostered an atmosphere of collaboration and creativity through a pre-art market event titled “Saling Senggol”, held on Saturday (August 16, 2025), at the CAD Building, ITB Ganesha Campus. The event served as a prologue to Pasar Seni ITB 2025, the largest art festival in Indonesia, which will take place on October 19, 2025.
Carrying the theme Pattern Recognition, Saling Senggol was designed to connect various elements of the art community—ranging from students and alumni to the wider public—within a shared space for creative interaction. According to Achmad Moersyid Soejiwo (Fine Art, Class of 2022), who was part of the event and artistic division, the series of Pasar Seni 2025 events is built around the theme of a "new reality" emerging from the convergence of the physical and digital worlds.
Kayla Davina Hafsah Ruslan (Visual Communication Design, Class of 2022), Chair of Pasar Seni ITB 2025, stated that the pre-event acted as a moment of cross-generational collaboration. “Through Saling Senggol, we aim to bring together students, alumni, and the public to find common ground and build creative collaborations,” Kayla explained.
The event featured a variety of segments—from student band auditions and alumni performances to the Pasar Senggol, an art fair showcasing hundreds of artworks, creative products, and unique merchandise by both students and alumni. A total of five student bands were selected to perform, joined by six invited bands consisting of FSRD alumni and students, bringing extra vibrancy to the celebration.
Saling Senggol was more than just entertainment—it became a space for intergenerational connection among the FSRD community. Denisa Febriyanti Bagjana (Visual Communication Design, Class of 2022), Head of Human Resources for the event, emphasized the importance of preserving this spirit of unity through to the main art market.
“We hope the spirit of togetherness that was built at Saling Senggol continues into Pasar Seni. This moment shows how students and alumni can support one another,” Denisa said.

In addition to music performances and a creative marketplace, visitors were invited to engage in various interactive activities. These were thoughtfully designed to offer a blend of recreation, education, and outreach to the public across different backgrounds.
According to Mochamad Fachrudin (Industrial Design, Class of 2022), Head of Creative and Marketing Communications, Saling Senggol aimed to broaden public understanding of art and design—especially in the digital era. “We want society to appreciate creative professionals more and recognize how the digital and physical worlds are now deeply intertwined,” he said.
With a diverse range of booths and community participation from various disciplines, Saling Senggol served not only as a platform for artistic appreciation, but also as a means of strengthening community networks, fostering solidarity, and celebrating the richness of Indonesian creativity. As Kayla summed it up: “If you can’t understand it, just enjoy it.”
But Saling Senggol was only the beginning. The pre-event series will continue with “Lapis Legit” on August 30, 2025, also held at the CAD Building. This upcoming forum will carry the theme Layers of Reality, exploring the increasingly blurred boundaries between virtual and real life. Artists, academics, and practitioners will gather to discuss the digital, social, and geopolitical issues shaping both the art world and broader society.
Pasar Seni ITB 2025 itself will mark the climax of ITB’s four-yearly art event—returning after an 11-year hiatus. It is expected to make history once again by attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors and celebrating Southeast Asia’s largest art ecosystem.
