BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Climate Change Center (PPI) of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), in collaboration with ITB’s Directorate of Research and Innovation (DRI), held a seminar titled “The Role of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in Climate-Resilient National Development Planning” on Wednesday (July 30, 2025), at the IPTEKS East CC Auditorium, ITB Ganesha Campus.
The seminar brought together stakeholders from government, industry, and academia, including representatives from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Ministry of Environment (KLH), the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), and PT PLN. The event attracted over 100 participants both on-site and online.
Scientific and Financial Collaboration to Address Climate Challenges
In his opening remarks, Prof. Djoko Santoso Abi Suroso, Ph.D., Head of ITB’s Climate Change Center, explained that the seminar is part of an effort to bridge the gap between climate science and sustainable finance through climate risk-based reporting.
“We want to connect the capabilities in climate change adaptation science with the financial sector,” he stated.
He also highlighted the growing demand from the energy sector—such as Pertamina and PLN—for climate impact assessments, particularly in terms of adaptation, not just mitigation. He cited, for example, a Pertamina refinery in Balikpapan that has faced water shortages and rising temperatures, affecting its operational processes.
According to him, a major future challenge is formulating risk metrics that truly reflect climate-related risks, rather than relying solely on conventional indicators that are often not sensitive enough to temperature rise, droughts, or extreme weather fluctuations.
ITB's Commitment to Multidisciplinary Collaboration

Opening Remarks and Seminar Launch of “The Role of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in Climate-Resilient National Development Planning” by Dr. Grandprix Thomryes Marth Kadja, M.Si. (ITB/Mely Anggrini)
Dr. Grandprix Thomryes Marth Kadja, M.Si., Deputy Director for Center Development at ITB’s DRI, stated that ITB currently manages 25 centers and 7 multidisciplinary research centers that drive collaboration across faculties and fields.
“Although the Climate Change Center is not large in terms of member count, it is highly active in contributing to national strategic issues. We fully support initiatives like this, as environmental issues are not only multidisciplinary but also multidimensional,” he explained.
He acknowledged that linking finance and climate science is a complex task, but one that must be urgently addressed.
“Hopefully, this IFRS seminar will serve as a concrete step in our contribution to climate resilience,” he added.
Dr. Grandprix emphasized the importance of fostering a shared learning spirit among stakeholders and expressed hope that the seminar would serve as a starting point for stronger collaboration between research and practice.
