BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) welcomed a delegation from the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, on April 10, 2025. Held in the VIP Room of the Rectorate Building on Tamansari Street, the visit aimed to explore opportunities for collaboration in education, research, and culture.
ITB's Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of ITB, Prof. Dr. Irwan Meilano, S.T., M.Sc., provided an overview of the schools, faculties, and study programs at ITB. He projected potential areas of collaboration, including life sciences, public transportation, energy, and technology.
"This collaboration not only targets education but also research and innovation. We are also open to collaboration in undergraduate and master's programs, as well as potential research funding from the industry," stated the Vice Rector.
Meanwhile, ITB's Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., highlighted the potential for a double-degree program between ITB and the University of Duisburg-Essen. He outlined the fast-track pathway that would enable students to complete their bachelor's degree at ITB and then pursue a master's degree in Germany.
The rector hoped that such collaboration would provide students with a valuable learning experience and a deeper understanding of cultural differences.
In response, Prof. Karen Shire, Ph.D., Vice Rector for University Culture, Diversity, and International Affairs at the University of Duisburg-Essen, welcomed the initiative and offered ITB students greater opportunities to participate in the student exchange program and experience German culture.
Following this, Prof. Dr. Alexander Malkwitz, Dean of Faculty of Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen, hoped that more Indonesian students, especially those from ITB, would have the opportunity to study abroad in Germany.
This agenda marked the beginning of the collaboration between the two institutions, one that is hoped to be long-term, expanding academic and research opportunities for both, and strengthening the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Germany in higher education.
