ITB and Timor Leste Synergize in the Spatial Planning and Geospatial Technology Field

JAKARTA, itb.ac.id - Institute Technology of Bandung (ITB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Strategic Planning and Investment of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, on Tuesday (29/4/2025) at ITB Jakarta Campus, Graha Irama Building, Kuningan, South Jakarta.

This MoU aims to strengthen collaboration in research, training, technical assistance, as well as the development and application of technology in the fields of spatial planning and geospatial data science. This collaboration includes student exchanges, research, provision of experts, as well as the execution of programs together in the field of geospatial information technology such as geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and cartography.

The Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., stated that this collaboration is a part of ITB's active role as a higher education institution in supporting regional development through knowledge transfer and technological innovation.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Planning and Strategic Investment of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, Gastao Francisco de Sousa, said this collaboration reflects the commitment of the two institutions in advancing strong science and technology-based development.

"We believe this collaboration will accelerate targeted and sustainable development in Timor-Leste," he said.

The MoU document is valid for three years and includes the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty, national interests, and maintaining the confidentiality of data and information exchanged. Each collaborative project under the umbrella of this MoU will be adjusted according to the availability of funds and further agreements from both parties.

With this MoU, it is hoped that a productive cooperation ecosystem will be formed between academics and the government in developing evidence-based policies and planning for sustainable development.
