BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – A team of three students from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) has introduced an innovative approach to electrification in Indonesia’s 3T regions—areas classified as underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost—through their creation of Vorione. The students behind this innovation are Jessica Stevanie (Engineering Management), M. Harist Herti R. (Material Engineering), and Shelfa Angelyn (Industrial Engineering).

Vorione is a bladeless wind turbine specifically designed as a sustainable energy solution for the 3T regions. Its standout features include the ability to operate across a wide range of wind speeds and direction. Additionally, its compact form makes it highly portable and suitable for remote applications.

Thanks to this innovation, the team won second place in the prestigious 1000x Innovation Challenge 2025, a national-level competition highlighting cutting-edge solutions across various sectors. Representing ITB in the energy category, the team received their award at the R. Soeria Atmadja Auditorium, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, on February 25, 2025.

Throughout the competition, the students demonstrated strong time management skills, balancing their academic responsibilities with the demands of the contest.

Reflecting on the experience, Harist shared, “I usually work behind the scenes as part of the R&D team at Vorione. Pitching our idea directly to a panel of judges in just five minutes was a one-of-a-kind experience for me.”

Jessica, also known as Stevie, noted that despite having to miss three active academic days to participate, the experience was well worth it. “We were able to secure second place, which made us feel both relieved and proud to bring this achievement back to the Vorione R&D team,” she said. Meanwhile, Shelfa encouraged more young innovators to step forward with bold ideas that offer real solutions to the challenges Indonesia are facing today.
