BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Falisha R. Ervianto, commonly called as Fay (Industrial Engineering, 2021), is currently participating in an exchange program at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea. Through this program, Fay is taking courses in the Industrial Engineering department. Her interest in the program stemmed from the opportunity to study at one of Seoul’s most prestigious universities.
“Koreans are highly motivated to attend universities in Seoul. When I learned about this scholarship and the list of partner universities, I immediately became eager to apply,” she said.
Fay chose this program because it is fully funded by the Hyundai CMK Global Scholarship, which has a strong reputation for supporting master’s and doctoral programs in Korea. With the scholarship’s full financial support, she believes this opportunity allows her to enrich her academic experience while developing skills beneficial for her future career.
Fay observed that the academic culture in Korea is highly competitive and disciplined. She is taking three types of courses: a special class for international students, a Business Administration class, and an Industrial Engineering class, each with distinct characteristics.
“The atmosphere in the international students’ class tends to be more relaxed since most participants are exchange students looking to immerse themselves in Korean culture. In contrast, classes dominated by local students are more intense,” she explained.
Beyond academics, Fay has been impressed by Korea’s efficient public infrastructure, particularly its integrated and user-friendly public transportation system. Using the Naver Map app, she can check real-time bus and subway locations, plan routes, and even receive recommendations for the best train car to exit near stairs or elevators.
Outside the academic activities, Fay actively engages in campus events, including semesterly festivals featuring famous K-pop artists. She has also secured free tickets to major concerts like the Incheon K-Pop Concert and Seoul Spring Festa Wonder Show, which showcase top-tier performers.

For students considering similar programs, Fay advises: “Thoroughly research your desired scholarship program. When applying, adopt a ‘nothing to lose’ mindset to accept any outcome. It’s okay if you don’t succeed at first—there will always be other opportunities.”
